Over a decade, I had the privilege of working on renowned power plant sites in South Africa, including Kendal, Matimba, Matla, Hendrina, Lethabo, Grootvlei, and Duvha. As I progressed from a Junior Safety Officer to a Senior SHERQ Practitioner, I managed safety, health, environment, risk, and quality aspects of large-scale projects, overseeing teams, budgets, and product purchases.

Overview:
As a mid-level safety officer, my responsibilities included implementing and maintaining safety programs, conducting risk assessments, developing safety policies and procedures, providing training to workers, overseeing permit-to-work systems, managing incident reporting and investigations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company standards, conducting safety inspections and audits, and collaborating with site management and contractors to promote a safe work environment. These projects were carried out for an international engineering company, Babcock Ntuthuko Engineering, and involved a diverse workforce of up to 1000 people, with significant man-hours and strict adherence to international standards, including the implementation of BS OSHAS 18001.

Overview:
As the Head of Project Safety for the Matimba Project, I developed and implemented robust safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local regulations. Through proactive risk assessments, safety training, and inspections, I maintained a stellar safety record and fostered a culture of safety excellence on the construction site. My expertise in steel construction safety standards and collaboration with stakeholders ensured that all steel-related activities were conducted safely. I conducted thorough incident investigations, developed corrective actions, and maintained meticulous records, resulting in an impeccable safety track record and earning accolades for the Matimba Project as a benchmark for safety in the construction industry.

Overview:
As the Head of Project Safety and Regulatory Compliance for the Kendal Site Leadership and Operational Excellence Initiative, I successfully managed and executed a challenging and complex project involving boiler internal repairs at a coal-fired power plant. This high-risk project required a disciplined approach, as it involved working in a hot, noisy, and dirty environment, and performing tasks such as welding, rigging, cutting, grinding, filler metal selection, preheating, and post-weld heat treatment on steel tubes. With meticulous attention to safety protocols, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance, our team completed the repairs, ensuring optimal operational characteristics of the boilers and maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality throughout the project. Our achievements were recognized with multiple international and national awards, highlighting our excellence in project management, safety, and operational excellence.
